# Add text to an image

Type the words, pick where they go and how large, and download the picture with the text on it.

## How it works

1. **Add your images** Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.
2. **Pick a quality or a target size** Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.
3. **Download** Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

Sometimes a picture needs a few words on it: a date on a holiday snap, a name under a product shot, a price on a flyer, a label on a diagram, a short line for a social post. Opening a full photo editor for that is more than the job needs. Here you type the text, choose its colour, its size as a share of the picture's width and one of nine positions, and the result appears straight away.

The lettering is a clean bold sans-serif that reads well at any size. It is drawn at full strength by default, so the words stand out; lower the opacity for a softer look. The tile position repeats the line across the whole picture, which some people use to mark photos they share.

Several pictures can be done at once with the same text and placement, and downloaded together as a ZIP. Everything is processed on our server and nothing is kept.

## Making text easy to read

Contrast matters more than size. White text on a light sky disappears; pick a colour that differs clearly from what lies behind it, or choose a position over a plain area of the picture. Short lines read better than long ones, and a little margin from the edge keeps the words from feeling cramped. The editor keeps that margin for you.

If the picture is busy everywhere, a border can make room: add one with the border tool, then put the text on it.

## Text or watermark?

The same control makes both. A caption is usually solid and placed at the bottom or top. A watermark is usually faint, in a corner or tiled, to show who a picture belongs to. The watermark page starts with those settings; this page starts with a caption.

## Keeping the quality

The picture is saved in its own format at a high quality, so the photo around the text does not lose detail. To make the file smaller at the same time, open the advanced settings and switch on compression.

## Ideas for using text on pictures

A date in the corner of a scanned family photo records when it was taken. A short title on a screenshot tells colleagues what to look at. A product name and price at the bottom of a photo turns it into a simple sale card for a group chat. A web address along the edge keeps a picture linked to its source when it is passed around.

For anything printed, choose a size of at least a fifth of the width so the words survive being shrunk, and check the result at the size people will see it.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I choose the font?

The text uses one bold sans-serif chosen for legibility. Colour, size, opacity and position can all be changed.

### Can I write on several lines?

The text is one line. For two lines, make the picture twice with different positions, or use the name and date page for ID photos.

### Does it work with transparent PNGs?

Yes. Transparency is kept when the output is PNG or WebP.

### Can I add text to many pictures at once?

Yes. Add them all; the same text goes on each, and they download as a ZIP.

### Is my picture stored?

No. The text is drawn on our server, the picture is sent back to you, and the upload is removed from the server in the same moment.

### Can I put the text in the middle?

Yes. The centre position puts it in the middle of the picture; the other eight sit along the edges and in the corners.

### Why can I not see my text?

The text box starts empty: type the words in the text field, and check that the colour differs from the picture behind it.
