How it works

  1. Add your images

Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.

  2. Pick a quality or a target size

Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.

  3. Download

Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

A background remover does one job: it works out which part of a picture is the subject and makes everything else disappear. This one uses an AI model on our own servers, so it behaves the same on a phone, an old laptop or a work computer where you cannot install anything. You add a picture, wait a few seconds, and download the cut-out.

The editor shows the original and the result side by side with a divider you can drag, which is the quickest way to check an edge. From there you can leave the background transparent, fill it with white, black or any colour, use a soft gradient, or blur the original scene instead of removing it. Edge refinement for hair and fur is on by default, and a feather slider softens the outline when a cut-out looks too sharp against its new background.

It is free for up to 20 images at a time at full resolution, with no watermark on the result. Pictures travel over an encrypted connection to our own servers and are never passed to another company; the original is not kept and the result is deleted within one hour. Clean subjects such as people, products and pets come out best. Very fine detail, such as loose strands of hair against a busy scene, can come out softer than you would like, so look at the edges before you use the picture.

Checking a cut-out in ten seconds

Drag the divider slowly across the picture and stop at four places. The top of the head, where stray hairs either survive or turn into a helmet. The hands, where fingers held apart can fuse together. Any closed gap, such as the space between an arm and the waist or the inside of a cup handle, where a patch of the old background likes to hide. And the bottom edge, where feet or the base of a product meet the floor.

If all four look right at normal zoom, the cut-out will hold up on a web page or a slide. Printing large is less forgiving, so zoom in further before you send anything to a printer.

What an automatic remover gets wrong, and why

The model has learned what subjects usually look like, and its mistakes follow from that. It may drop something the person is holding, because a guitar or a bunch of flowers is not part of a body. It removes cast shadows together with the floor, which can leave a product looking as if it floats. It struggles with glass, veils and smoke, where the background is honestly visible through the subject. None of this is a fault in your photo.

The practical answer is the background you choose. A blurred or softly graded background hides a slightly rough edge far better than flat white does.

Five backgrounds, one cut-out

After the model has run once, every background option is instant. Transparent gives you a file to place on anything. A solid colour suits documents and shop listings. A gradient between two colours of your choice makes a quick banner or profile picture. Blur keeps the original scene and softens it, like a wide lens aperture. The fifth option, your own picture as the new background, is part of the Pro plan.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?

No. You can remove backgrounds without signing up. An account only adds higher limits on the Pro plan.

Is there a watermark?

No. Free results are full resolution and carry no watermark.

Which images work best?

A clear subject that stands out from what is behind it: a person, a product, a pet, a logo.

How long are my pictures kept?

The original is not kept at all. The result is deleted automatically within one hour.

Can I correct the edge by hand?

Not yet. There is no brush for restoring or erasing parts of the mask. The feather and edge refinement settings are the controls for now.

Does it work on drawings and cartoons?

Often, when the character stands clearly apart from the scene. Line art on white paper is less predictable, because thin lines carry little that the model can recognise as a subject.
