# Crop an image into a circle

Place a round frame over the face or the logo, and download it as a PNG with see-through corners.

## How it works

1. **Add your images** Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.
2. **Pick a quality or a target size** Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.
3. **Download** Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

Most sites and apps show profile pictures as circles, and a square photo cropped by them does not always land where you want: the top of the head is cut off, or the face sits low. Cropping it into a circle yourself shows exactly what others will see. The frame here is locked to a square, so the circle is always round, and you drag and resize it over the part you want.

Everything outside the circle becomes transparent, so the picture sits cleanly on any background, light or dark. That is why the page saves as PNG; WebP keeps transparency too, while JPG would fill the corners with white. Resize it in the advanced settings if a site asks for a particular size, such as 400 by 400 pixels.

Several pictures can be cropped one after another in the same session. They are processed on our server and deleted at once.

## Placing the circle well

For a portrait, put the eyes a little above the middle of the circle and leave space above the head; a face that fills the whole circle looks cramped. For a logo, centre it and leave an even margin all round, or the edges of the logo touch the circle. Zoom in on the preview to check the outline before downloading.

## Adding a ring round the circle

A coloured ring can make an avatar stand out. Crop the circle here, then open the border page and add a border of the same colour round it, or switch on the border in the advanced settings.

A thin white ring separates a dark photo from a dark page; a thicker coloured one ties the avatar to a brand.

## Profile picture sizes

Sites shrink uploads to their own size, so start large: 800 by 800 pixels or more gives a sharp result everywhere. The file stays small, because the transparent corners hold no picture.

Finally, check that the face really sits in the middle of the circle.

## Round pictures beyond profiles

Circles suit team pages, where a row of round portraits looks tidier than mixed rectangles, and speaker lists for events. They also work for round product shots, badges and stickers. Cropping all the pictures of a set with the same framing, eyes at the same height, gives a page a calm, even look.

For a round icon from a logo on a coloured square, remove the background first, then crop the result into a circle here.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why is my circle saved as PNG?

PNG keeps the transparent corners. A JPG has no transparency and would show white corners.

### Can I crop to an oval?

The frame is locked to a circle. For other shapes, use the ordinary crop tool.

### Can I add a background colour behind the circle?

Yes. Choose JPG as the format and pick the colour that fills the corners in the advanced settings.

### Does it work on phones?

Yes. Drag the frame with a finger, and drag its corners to make it larger or smaller.

### Is my photo stored?

No. The circle is cut on our server and your photo is wiped from it the moment the result comes back.

### Can I crop several pictures into circles?

Yes. Add them all, adjust the frame for each one, and download them as a ZIP.

### Will the edge of the circle look jagged?

No. The edge is smoothed, so the circle looks clean on any background.
