How it works

  1. Add your images

Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.

  2. Pick a quality or a target size

Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.

  3. Download

Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

Discord's upload limit depends on your server boost level and whether you have Nitro, and it has changed over time, so this page intentionally doesn't quote one fixed number. Keeping an image around a few megabytes or less is a safe bet for most situations, and this tool lets you compress to quality or to an exact target size.

If an image still won't post, it's more often the pixel dimensions than the file size causing trouble; turning on Resize to bring down a very large screenshot or photo alongside compressing it usually solves the problem.

Your image is sent over an encrypted connection, we do not keep the original, and the result is deleted automatically within one hour. If an image is being automatically compressed or re-encoded by Discord itself after you post it, that's Discord's own processing on their end, separate from anything done here beforehand. It's a good habit to keep an eye on the final pixel dimensions shown after compressing, since that's usually the more common cause of posting issues.

Screenshots, memes and photos need different treatment

Most pictures posted in a server are screenshots, and capture tools save them as PNG. A PNG of a game at 1440p is full of fine texture and easily weighs 5 MB or more. Change the format to JPEG or WebP at a quality of 85 and the same frame comes out at a few hundred kilobytes, with no difference anyone in the channel will notice.

Screenshots of text are the exception: a chat log, a settings menu, a spreadsheet. Keep those as PNG and lower the quality slider below 90 instead. The colours are reduced, the letters stay razor sharp, and the file still drops to a fraction of what it was.

Getting an animated GIF under the limit

A GIF stores every frame as a full picture with at most 256 colours, which is why ten seconds of animation can outweigh a minute of video. Two controls make the difference. The quality slider sets the number of colours: 75 gives 192 of them and 50 gives 128, and many clips survive that well. Resize does far more. Halving the width and height leaves a quarter of the data in every frame, and a GIF shown in a chat window is small on screen anyway.

The animation is kept as long as you only compress or scale. Cropping or rotating returns the first frame alone.

Emoji, stickers and avatars

Server emoji, stickers, avatars and banners each have their own limits, a good deal tighter than the limit for ordinary uploads, and Discord lists the current figures in its help pages. Look the number up, pick Target size and Custom, and type it in. Then set Resize to the square dimensions Discord recommends with the fit on Fill and crop. Emoji with a transparent background should stay PNG or WebP; as JPEG they would get a solid box around them.

Frequently asked questions

What's Discord's exact file size limit?

It depends on your server's boost level and Nitro status and has changed over time, so check Discord's own current help page for the exact number.

Why won't my image post even though it's small?

Very large pixel dimensions can also cause issues; try turning on Resize.

Does compressing affect GIFs?

GIFs are supported. An animated GIF stays animated when the output is GIF or WebP; any other output format keeps only the first frame.

Can I compress a batch of screenshots at once?

Yes, add them together and download individually or as a ZIP.

Which number should I type as the target?

The limit Discord states for your account or server, or slightly under it. We count 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes, the stricter definition, so the result fits however Discord counts.

Can I paste a screenshot instead of saving it first?

Yes. Copy the screenshot, click on this page and paste. It is added like any dropped file, and you can paste several one after another.
