# Increase an image's size in KB

When a form says your photo is too small, fill it up to the minimum without touching what it looks like.

## How it works

1. **Add your images** Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.
2. **Pick a quality or a target size** Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.
3. **Download** Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

Most upload limits are maximums, but some forms also set a floor: a photo of at least 20 KB, a signature between 10 and 50 KB. A clean, well-compressed picture can easily fall below it, and the portal then refuses a file that looks perfectly fine. This tool brings the file up to the number you type.

It works by adding padding inside the file, in places that image programs are built to skip: comment segments in a JPEG and a private chunk in a PNG. Every viewer shows exactly the same picture, the width and height stay as they were, and the file now weighs at least what the form demands.

A JPEG is saved again at quality 95 first, which leaves it looking the same; a PNG stays lossless. Other formats are saved as JPEG, because only these two can be padded.

## Why forms ask for a minimum

A minimum is a rough guard against pictures that are too small to be useful: a thumbnail, a blurred crop, a screenshot of a screenshot. It measures weight, not quality, so a sharp picture of plain content can fail it too. Padding answers the rule as written. If the form also names a pixel size, set that first with the resize or ID photo tool, then come back here.

## Typing the number

Enter the minimum in kilobytes as the form gives it. The tool counts a kilobyte as 1,024 bytes, the larger of the two readings, so the file clears the floor whichever way the portal counts. When the form gives a range, make sure the maximum is also respected: aim for the minimum plus a little, not far above it.

If you do not know the minimum, the form's error message usually names it. Note that a number such as 20 KB is often meant as the smallest acceptable file, and the same form may give a separate, larger maximum.

## When to make the picture itself bigger instead

If a form rejects your photo for being too small in pixels, not in kilobytes, padding will not help, because it does not add any pixels. Use the resize tool to enlarge it to the width and height required, and check that the face or document is still sharp enough.

Signatures fall below minimums more often than photos, because a few dark strokes on white compress so well. The signature cleaner sizes a signature to a range in one step.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does this make the photo look different?

No. The pixels are the same, and the padding is invisible to every image viewer and editor.

### Is padding allowed by forms?

Forms check the file's size and type, which this keeps correct. The image inside is the one you uploaded; nothing is hidden in the padding but zeros.

### Why did my HEIC or WebP become a JPEG?

Only JPEG and PNG files have a standard place for padding, and they are what forms accept anyway.

### Is my photo kept?

No. It is processed on our server and deleted straight after; we do not pass it to anyone.

### Can I go up to several megabytes?

Yes, up to 50 MB, though no form we know of asks for that much.

### Can I set a range instead of a minimum?

This page fills a file up to a minimum. For a picture that must land between two sizes at an exact pixel size, the ID photo and signature pages take both a minimum and a maximum.
