# Increase an image's file size to 1 MB

Turn a picture of a few hundred KB into a file of at least 1 MB, for uploads that refuse anything smaller.

## How it works

1. **Add your images** Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.
2. **Pick a quality or a target size** Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.
3. **Download** Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

Some portals set a minimum as well as a maximum, and a few insist on at least a megabyte: print services checking that a photo will not look pixelated, competitions that want originals rather than thumbnails, and some document systems. A photo that was compressed by a messaging app is often far below that, even though it looks fine.

Add the picture and it is saved again at a very high quality, and, if that is still not enough, with harmless padding inside the file, until it reaches at least 1 MB. The pixels you see are not stretched or changed, so the picture looks exactly as it did.

The new size is shown in kilobytes and megabytes so you can see it passes. If you need a different minimum, such as 500 KB or 2 MB, type it in and the file is made again.

## Why a bigger file is not a better picture

Making a file larger cannot add detail that the photo never had. If a print shop or a judge wants a megabyte because they expect a sharp, large picture, send the original from your camera or phone instead of an enlarged copy of a small one; the file size test alone is what this page answers.

For a photo that really needs more pixels, the AI upscaler adds them; then this page is not needed at all.

## Keeping the format

A JPEG stays a JPEG and a PNG stays a PNG, so the portal's format check is not affected. The file's resolution setting is kept as well, unless you change it with the DPI tool.

Pictures in other formats, such as HEIC or WebP, come out as JPEG, the format such checks expect most often.

## Exact numbers

One megabyte here means 1,024 kilobytes, the larger of the two ways portals count it, so the file passes either way.

On a portal that counts a kilobyte as 1,000 bytes, the file is slightly over the line, which is what you want for a minimum.

## Privacy

Your picture is processed on our server and deleted once the larger file has been made.

Nothing you add stays on the server for later, neither the original nor the larger file.

## When a form asks for a range

Some forms say between 1 MB and 2 MB. Make the file at least 1 MB here, then check the size shown: it rarely overshoots by much, so it normally lands inside the range as well.

## One picture at a time

This page works on a single picture, so it can show you its exact new size. For a set of images, make them one after another; each takes only a moment.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does this make my picture sharper?

No. It only makes the file bigger; the picture looks the same.

### Will the format change?

No. A JPEG stays a JPEG and a PNG stays a PNG.

### Can I choose a different minimum?

Yes. Type the size you need in KB.

### Is 1 MB here 1,024 KB?

Yes, so it passes portals that count either way.

### Is my image kept?

No. It is deleted from our server after the file is made.

### Is padding a file allowed?

The padding is ordinary file data that image readers skip; check your portal's rules if in doubt.

### What if I need more pixels, not a bigger file?

Use the AI upscaler, which enlarges the picture itself.
