# Make a grid of posts from one photo

Cut a picture into square pieces numbered in the order to post them, so your profile shows it whole.

## How it works

1. **Add your images** Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.
2. **Pick a quality or a target size** Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.
3. **Download** Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

A profile grid that shows one large picture across nine posts makes a strong first impression for a launch, an event or a new collection. Getting it right by hand is fiddly: the pieces must be square, equal and posted in reverse order. This page does all three. It trims your picture to the largest area that divides into square tiles, draws the grid over it, and numbers the files in the order to post them.

The usual grid is three by three, three posts wide as profiles show them. One row of three works for a quick banner, two rows for six posts. Each piece comes out as a high-quality JPG by default, which every app accepts; the grid shows on your profile once the last piece is posted.

The photo is cut on our server and the upload is deleted at once. Nothing is posted for you: you upload the pieces yourself.

## Posting the pieces in the right order

A profile shows the newest post first, at the top left. So the piece that belongs at the bottom right must go up first. The files are numbered for this: post 01 first, then 02, and so on up to 09, which lands top left and completes the picture. Post them one after another without anything else in between.

Before posting, open all nine pieces in your phone's gallery and check that they are in order by number.

## Choosing a photo that works as a grid

Pick a picture with interest spread across it, not one small subject in the middle that ends up cut through its centre post. Keep faces away from the cut lines, which the preview shows in white. Each piece is also seen on its own in the feed, so pieces that hold a recognisable part look better than empty sky.

## Profile grids that are not square

Some profiles now show posts in a taller shape. If yours does, switch off square pieces and crop the picture to three times four by five first, so each piece keeps that shape.

## Planning the posts around the grid

While the grid is being posted, followers see the pieces arrive one by one, which can look odd for a few minutes. Post all nine in one sitting. Write the captions beforehand, perhaps one line of a story per piece, and keep them short so that attention stays on the picture.

Later posts push the grid down by one place each time, so the picture only stays aligned if you post in multiples of three afterwards.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why are the edges of my photo trimmed?

Square pieces need an area that divides evenly; the trimmed part is shaded in the preview.

### Which piece do I post first?

The one named post-01, the bottom-right piece.

### What size are the pieces?

As large as your photo allows. A 3,000-pixel-wide photo gives pieces 1,000 pixels square.

### Will Instagram lower the quality?

It recompresses every upload. Starting from large, high-quality pieces keeps the result sharp.

### Is my photo stored?

No. It is cut on our server and erased as soon as the ZIP is sent back.

### Can I make a grid of more than nine posts?

Yes, up to ten rows. More rows make the picture taller on your profile.

### Does this work for other networks?

Any profile that shows posts in a grid of three columns works the same way.
