# Post a photo on Instagram without cropping

Fit the whole picture into Instagram's tallest feed shape, 1080 by 1350 pixels, with plain bands where the shapes differ.

## How it works

1. **Add your images** Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.
2. **Pick a quality or a target size** Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.
3. **Download** Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

Instagram's help centre says photos are shared up to 1080 pixels wide and that a photo whose shape is not supported is cropped to fit. Very tall phone pictures and wide panoramas fall outside the range, so the app trims them, often through someone's head or across the view you wanted to show.

Add your picture and it is placed whole inside a 1080 by 1350 pixel canvas, a 4:5 portrait shape, with white filling the rest. Upload that and Instagram has nothing to crop. Landscape photos sit in the middle with bands above and below; tall ones get bands at the sides.

4:5 is used because it is inside the range Instagram's help pages give, so it is never cut, and it is the largest a photo appears in the feed. For a square post instead, change the size to 1080 by 1080 in the same panel.

## Band colours

White matches Instagram's light mode, black its dark mode. A colour from the photo makes the bands feel like part of the design; pick it from the picture and type its code into the background colour.

Many accounts use the same band colour on every post, which makes the grid look deliberate rather than mixed.

## Carousels

Every picture in an Instagram carousel takes the shape of the first one. Pad all of them here to the same 1080 by 1350 canvas and the whole set shows uncropped, whatever the original shapes.

## Sharpness

Instagram resizes uploads to 1080 pixels wide. Giving it exactly that width means it has less to change, which tends to keep photos crisper than uploading a huge original.

## Privacy

Your pictures are processed on our server and deleted once the padded versions are ready.

## Stories and reels

Stories and reel covers are full-screen 9:16. For those, change the size to 1080 by 1920 in the panel, and the same padding keeps the whole picture visible.

## Panoramas

A wide panorama padded to 4:5 becomes a thin strip in the middle of the post. If it is the view that matters, split it into several square or 4:5 pieces with the split image page and post them as a carousel instead; swiping then reveals the whole scene.

## Profile grid

Instagram's profile grid shows posts as portrait tiles. A padded 4:5 post keeps its whole picture inside the tile, so the grid shows what you posted rather than a random middle slice.

Instagram lets you add alt text to each photo for people who use screen readers. With the whole picture visible, a short description of what is in it, such as who and where, is easy to write and helps more people enjoy the post.

## Faster uploads

A 1080 by 1350 JPEG is usually a few hundred kilobytes, far less than a phone original, so it uploads quickly even on a slow connection.
