# Resize your photo and signature for a PAN card

Get the 3.5 × 2.5 cm photo and the 2 × 4.5 cm signature, both at 200 DPI, that Protean's online PAN application asks for.

## How it works

1. **Add your images** Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.
2. **Pick a quality or a target size** Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.
3. **Download** Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

Protean, formerly NSDL e-Gov, takes online PAN applications for the Income Tax Department. Its guidelines for applications signed with a digital signature certificate give a strict table for the scans: the photograph and the signature both at 200 DPI, in colour, as JPEG, the photo no larger than 20 kilobytes and the signature no larger than 10.

The sizes are given in centimetres: 3.5 by 2.5 for the photo, the usual portrait shape, and 2 by 4.5 for the signature, a low, wide box. At 200 DPI that makes the photo 197 by 276 pixels and the signature 354 by 157. Add your pictures here and both files are made to those numbers.

The table is quoted from Protean's guidelines for Form 49A with a digital signature certificate, linked with the day it was read. Other routes, such as e-KYC with Aadhaar, may capture the photo differently; follow the screen of the route you choose.

## The photograph

Use a recent colour photo with your face clearly visible against a plain, light background, looking straight at the camera. The 3.5 by 2.5 centimetre frame is taller than it is wide; place your head and shoulders in it and the file is made at 197 by 276 pixels, under 20 KB.

A photo that is too dark or blurred is a common reason for a PAN application to be put on hold, so take it in daylight.

## The signature

Sign with a dark pen on white paper and photograph just the signature. It is cleaned to solid ink on white, cropped close and fitted into the 2 by 4.5 centimetre box, 354 by 157 pixels, under 10 KB. Sign the way you will sign the acknowledgement and any later forms.

## Supporting documents

The same table asks for proofs of identity, address and date of birth in black and white, at 200 DPI, as PDF/A or JPEG, up to 300 KB per page. Those are not part of this kit; the JPG to PDF pages and the scanned PDF tool help with them.

## Privacy

Your pictures are processed on our server and deleted once the two files exist.

Nothing is kept for a later visit; come back with the same pictures to make the files again.

## Before you submit

Open both files once: the face should be sharp and evenly lit, and the signature complete and dark. The application cannot be changed after payment without a correction request, so a minute spent checking saves a much longer process.

## Corrections and reprints

For a change of photo or signature on an existing PAN, Protean's correction route uses the same scanning table. Make new files here and upload them in the correction form.

## Downloading both

Each file can be downloaded on its own, or both together as one ZIP, named so you can tell the photo from the signature.
