# Make a 3 × 4 inch photo

Crop and resize a picture to 3 by 4 inches at print resolution, 900 by 1,200 pixels, ready for a print shop or a form.

## How it works

1. **Add your images** Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.
2. **Pick a quality or a target size** Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.
3. **Download** Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

Three by four inches is a common portrait print and photo frame size, and some forms and school records ask for a photo of exactly that size. It is a 3:4 shape, a little taller than it is wide, and at 300 DPI it needs 900 by 1,200 pixels to print sharply.

Add your photo and a 3:4 frame is placed over it. Move it to frame the face or subject, resize it from the corners, and the result is made at 900 by 1,200 pixels with 300 DPI recorded, so a printer outputs it at exactly 3 by 4 inches.

If you need the same size in centimetres, it is 7.62 by 10.16. Need it in landscape? Swap the width and height in the size panel and the frame turns on its side.

## Framing a portrait

For a head and shoulders photo, keep the top of the head a little below the upper edge and the eyes about a third of the way down. A plain, light background makes the print look clean; the background tools can replace a busy one first.

For an official photo with exact rules, such as a passport or visa, use the country's own photo page instead: those follow the authority's head size and background rules.

## Several prints on one sheet

A print shop can usually put several 3 by 4 inch photos on one larger sheet. If yours wants a ready-made sheet, make the photo here and then lay copies out with the collage maker.

## Small source photos

A photo cropped from a group shot may have fewer than 900 by 1,200 pixels left. It is enlarged to the full size so it prints at 3 by 4 inches, but it cannot gain detail; the AI upscaler gives a sharper result for small crops.

## Privacy

Your photo is cropped and resized on our server and deleted once the result is ready.

## File type

The photo is saved as a high-quality JPEG, which every print shop and form accepts. If a site limits the file size, set a target in the compression settings of the same panel.

## Ordering prints

Tell the print shop the size, 3 by 4 inches, and send the file as it is: it already has the right shape, so nothing gets trimmed at the lab. For a matte or glossy finish, ask for it when ordering; the file is the same either way.

## Cropping again later

The original photo is not changed. If the print comes out framed too tight, come back, move the 3:4 frame a little and make the file again.

## Colour and light

For a good print, take the photo in soft daylight facing a window rather than under a ceiling light, which casts shadows under the eyes. If the picture is too dark, brighten it in the same panel before downloading. Print shops tend to print a little darker than a screen shows, so a slightly bright file often gives the most natural result.
