A QR code is a square of black and white dots that a phone camera reads in a moment. People use it to open a web page, join a Wi-Fi network, write an email or call a number without typing anything. This tool builds the code from what you enter and shows it as you type.
You can change the colours, the size, the empty border and the error correction level, and the preview follows each change. The code is made as a grid of squares, so the edges stay hard and sharp. That is what scanners need.
Download the code as SVG, which stays sharp at any size, or as PNG, JPEG or WebP. The grid is calculated in your browser. For a picture format, only the finished grid is sent to our server to be drawn, and it is deleted afterwards.
Making a code in three steps
Pick the kind of code first. A web address or plain text is the most common, and the other kinds fill in the right format for a Wi-Fi network, an email, a call or a text message.
Fill in the fields and check the preview. If you plan to print the code, test it with your own phone before it goes to the printer, and again from the distance at which people will scan it.
Choose a format and download. Use SVG for print and for logos that will be resized, and PNG for a web page or a slide.
Getting a code that scans every time
Keep strong contrast. Dark squares on a light background work best, and the code colour should be much darker than the colour behind it. A pale blue code on white may look fine to you and fail on a cheap scanner.
Leave the empty border alone. The four squares of blank space around the code let a scanner find where it begins. A border of zero is meant for a code that is placed inside a frame you control.
Do not make the code too small. A rough guide is ten times the distance, so a code scanned from one metre away should be at least ten centimetres wide, and more if it holds a lot of text.
Error correction and the amount of text
A QR code holds extra data that lets a scanner rebuild squares that are missing. The low level adds the least and keeps the code simple. The high level lets the code survive a scratch, but it needs more squares for the same text.
Shorter text gives a simpler code that scans faster from farther away. If you want to share a long address, put it behind a short link and encode that instead.
Before you publish a code, check where it leads. A code with a wrong address, printed a thousand times, is an expensive mistake, and fixing it means printing again. Read the code with a phone and open the page to the end.
Frequently asked questions
Does the code expire?
No. The text is written into the squares, and nothing on our side keeps it alive. It works for as long as the address or the number it points to keeps working.
Is it free to use the code in print?
Yes. You may print the code on a leaflet, a menu, a shop window or a product, and you do not need to credit us.
Why does my code not scan?
Check the contrast first, then the border, then the size. If the text is long, lower the density by shortening it. A code that sits on a curved surface or behind glare can also fail.
Which format should I download?
SVG for anything that is printed or resized, and PNG for screens. JPEG and WebP are there for places that accept nothing else, and PNG is better for a code with hard edges.
Is the text kept on your server?
The text itself stays in your browser. If you download a picture, we receive the drawn grid of squares, not the words, and we delete it once the picture is made.
Can I add my logo to the code?
This tool does not do that. A logo covers squares that a scanner needs and makes the code harder to read. If you want one, add it in another program and then test the code.
