# Resize an image to 600 × 600 pixels

Get a picture of exactly 600 by 600 pixels, cropped to a square where you want it rather than stretched.

## How it works

Six hundred by six hundred pixels is a size many upload forms name exactly: visa and passport portals in some countries, marketplace product images, forum avatars and online exam photos. Portals that check it refuse anything a pixel off, and a photo scaled straight to 600 by 600 from a rectangle looks squashed.

Add your picture and a square frame appears; move it over the part you want to keep. The square is then scaled to exactly 600 by 600 pixels, so faces and objects keep their proportions. A picture smaller than 600 pixels is enlarged to fill the size.

Prefer not to crop? Set How to fit to Fit and pad and the whole picture is placed inside the square with plain bands at the sides. The pixel size stays 600 by 600 either way.

## Faces and products

Turn on face placement and the square is centred on the faces automatically, which is quick for a batch of portraits. For products, centre the item with an even margin; shops often show the picture inside a slightly smaller frame.

Many photo portals that ask for 600 by 600 also set a file size, often under 240 KB; set a target in the compression settings if yours does.

## Batches

Add several pictures and each comes out at 600 by 600 pixels, each with its own square you can move. Save them singly, or all at once in a ZIP.

## Other square sizes

Type another number in the size panel for 500, 800 or 1,000 pixels; the square crop works the same way. For a rectangle of exact pixels, enter both numbers and the frame takes that shape.

## Privacy

Your pictures are processed on our server and deleted once the 600 by 600 versions exist.

## Checking the size

Each result shows its width and height in pixels next to the file size, so you can confirm it is 600 by 600 before you upload. If a portal still says the size is wrong, it may want a different format; JPEG is the safest choice.

## Photos for official portals

Where 600 by 600 pixels is asked for an official photo, the portal usually also sets the background colour, the head size and the file size. Check those rules too; the passport and visa photo pages for many countries apply them for you.

## Keeping the original

Your original file is never changed. Make a different crop or size from it as often as you like, then download only the version you want.

## Format

The file is saved in the original's format unless you pick another in Advanced. For portals, JPEG is usually the safest.
