# Split an image into equal pieces

Choose rows and columns, see the cut lines on your picture, and download the pieces in one ZIP.

## How it works

1. **Add your images** Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.
2. **Pick a quality or a target size** Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.
3. **Download** Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

A large picture sometimes has to travel in parts: a poster printed on several sheets and taped together, a panorama posted as a swipeable carousel, a map cut into tiles for a game, or a puzzle for a classroom. This page draws the cut lines over your picture as you choose rows and columns, so you see exactly where each piece begins before anything is made.

Every piece is the same size, give or take a pixel where the picture does not divide evenly, and nothing is lost: the pieces put back together are the whole picture. Switch on square pieces to trim the edges so that every piece is square. Choose JPG for photos, PNG for drawings and screenshots, or WebP for the web.

The pieces come in one ZIP, each named by its row and column. The picture is cut on our server and deleted straight after.

## Printing a poster on several sheets

To print large on an ordinary printer, split the picture into as many pieces as sheets: 2 × 2 for four A4 sheets makes roughly an A2 poster. Print each piece to fill its page, trim the white margins, and tape them edge to edge from the back. A picture with plenty of pixels holds up best; the AI upscaler can help with a small one first.

## Carousels and panoramas

A wide photo split into 1 row of 3 or 4 columns makes a carousel post that swipes across the whole scene. Turn on square pieces if the network shows square tiles, or leave it off for the 4 × 5 shape some feeds prefer and crop the panorama to that height first.

## Numbering of the files

Each file is named with its row and column, and also with a post number. The numbers count backwards from the bottom right, which is the order a grid feed needs: post 01 first, and the last post lands top left.

## Tiles for games, maps and lessons

Teachers cut a picture into pieces for a matching game or a jigsaw on the board. Game makers cut a large map into tiles that load one at a time. Designers cut a long infographic into sections for a slide deck. In each case equal pieces with predictable names save time, and the row and column in every file name say where it belongs.

For tiles that must fit together exactly, choose PNG: it keeps every pixel, so the edges line up without a visible seam when the pieces are placed side by side again.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the largest grid?

Ten rows by ten columns, a hundred pieces.

### Will the pieces be exactly equal?

Yes, to within a pixel. When the size does not divide evenly, the last row and column take the extra pixel.

### Is any of the picture cut away?

Not unless square pieces is on, which trims the edges evenly to make the pieces square.

### Can I split a PDF page?

Yes. The first page is drawn as a picture and split like any other.

### Is my picture kept?

No. The pieces are cut on our server, sent back as a ZIP, and the upload is erased.

### Can I join pieces back together?

The collage maker lays several pictures out in a grid, which reassembles them.

### Can I preview the pieces before downloading?

The white lines over the picture show every cut. The pieces themselves are made when you download.
