# Resize your photo and signature for UPSC

Add your photo and your signature sheet, and get both files made to the Commission's own rules, ready for the online application.

## How it works

1. **Add your images** Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.
2. **Pick a quality or a target size** Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.
3. **Download** Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

The Union Public Service Commission's online application asks for two files: a photograph and a scan of your signature written three times. The rules are short but strict, and an upload that breaks them is refused or, worse, makes the application liable to rejection later. This page holds those rules for you, taken from UPSC's own notice and portal instructions, with the date they were read and a link to the source.

The photo is made as a JPG between 20 and 200 kilobytes on a plain white background; switch on the white background if your wall is not white. The signature sheet is cleaned to dark ink on white and fitted into a frame inside the 350 to 500 pixel range the instructions give, between 20 and 100 kilobytes. Each file shows a tick when it meets its limits, and both download as one ZIP.

Your pictures are processed on our server and deleted straight after. Nothing is submitted to UPSC for you: you upload the files yourself.

## The photograph

UPSC asks for a recent photo with your face covering about three quarters of the picture, both ears visible, on plain white. It must not be signed. The notice sets a file size, not a pixel size, so this page uses 3.5 by 4.5 centimetres at 300 dots per inch, a standard passport shape, and says so beside the slot. You will also be asked for a live photo taken by your camera during the application; that one is not a file.

## The signature sheet

Sign three times, one below the other, in black ink on plain white paper, leaving space between the signatures. Photograph or scan the sheet; the cleaner turns the paper white, removes shadows and crops close to the ink. The frame is taller than wide, our choice inside the pixel range the instructions give, so the three signatures keep their size.

## Before you submit

Open both files and check them at full size: the face clear and not shadowed, all three signatures readable. Then read the current notice for your exam, because UPSC can change the rules between cycles; the date these were read is shown on the page.

## If the application asks again

Keep both files until the whole selection is over. The same photo is often needed later, at the admit card stage or for the detailed application form, and it should match the first one. Name the ZIP after the exam and the year so it is easy to find.

If you ever replace the photo, make the new one on this same page, so it has the same size and background as the last.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does this work for all UPSC exams?

The rules shown are those of UPSC's online application portal, used for its examinations; check your own exam's notice in case it differs.

### What pixel size does UPSC want for the photo?

The notice gives a file size, 20 to 200 KB, not a pixel size. The size used here is our choice and is labelled as such.

### Why three signatures?

The instructions ask for three, one below another, in a single image. The page keeps them in one file.

### Is my photo stored?

No. It is made on our server and deleted at once, and it is never sent to UPSC or anyone else by us.

### What if the tick does not appear?

The file is outside a limit. A clearer, better lit picture usually fixes it.

### Can I use the same photo for other exams?

Only if their rules match; each kit page shows its own limits, and the photo checker compares a file with any of them.
