How it works

  1. Add your images

Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.

  2. Pick a quality or a target size

Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.

  3. Download

Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

Colombian visas are applied for online through Cancillería, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the photo is uploaded as a file. The ministry's user guide for the online visa form asks for a colour photo with a white background, 4 centimetres high by 3 centimetres wide, in JPG format and no larger than 300 KB. The current visa ABC page repeats the JPG format and the 300 KB limit.

This page opens the photo maker with that shape. It saves 354 by 472 pixels, which is 3 by 4 centimetres at 300 DPI, as a JPEG kept under 300 KB. A photo this size usually weighs far less than the limit at a high quality setting.

The table shows the size, file limit and background with the date we read the ministry's guide. The upload form tells you at once whether it accepts the file; if it shows an error, the guide says the cause can be the size or format of the photo.

What Resolution 5477 adds

The ministry's Resolution 5477 of 2022 sets the general visa requirements and describes the photo in more detail. It must be recent, in colour, with a white background, the face towards the camera with a neutral expression, the whole head visible and centred, and both eyes open. Neither hair nor accessories may cover the head or the face.

The image must be sharp and of good resolution, and it may contain nothing other than the person's own face. For the rest, the resolution refers to the online form's technical specifications.

Ears visible, no glare

The user guide adds two details. Both ears should be visible, so tuck long hair behind them. And there should be no flashes in the photo, meaning no bright spots from a camera flash on the skin or glasses. Daylight from a window in front of you avoids both problems.

If you wear glasses and cannot get rid of the glare, take them off for the photo.

From phone photo to upload

Start with the original picture from your phone or camera, not a screenshot. Add it here, place the frame so the head is centred and complete, and download the JPG. Upload that file directly in the supporting documents section of the form, using its photo upload button. If the form reports an error, check the file's size and format.

Keeping the file small but sharp

The 300 KB ceiling is a maximum, not a target. A 354 by 472 pixel portrait at high quality is usually well under it, so there is no need to lower the quality further. If you started from a very noisy low-light picture, the weight can climb; in that case take the photo again in better light rather than compressing it until the face looks blotchy. A small, clean file also uploads faster.
