Sometimes a link is not enough. You want the page itself, exactly as it looks today, as a file you can attach, print or keep. This tool turns the address you give into a single tall image of the page, from the header to the footer.

It starts on JPEG with the whole page switched on, which gives a light file for long pages with many photographs. Change the format to PNG when the page is mostly text and flat colour, or to WebP for the smallest file that current programs can open.

The picture is taken by a browser engine on our server, without running the scripts of the page. Pages that are built on the server, such as articles, documentation, shop pages and blogs, come out well. Pages that rely on scripts to show their content may not.

Saving a page for later

Web pages change and disappear. A picture records what a page said on the day you saved it, which helps with receipts, terms and conditions, listings and evidence in a dispute. Add the date to the file name yourself, since the file carries none.

For legal or official use, remember that a screenshot only records what our server saw. It is not a certified copy, and a page may differ for visitors in other countries.

Choosing the format

JPEG is the best choice for pages with photographs: the file stays small, and the quality slider lets you trade detail for size. PNG keeps text perfectly sharp, which suits documentation and code samples, but the file can be several times larger on a long page.

WebP is smaller than both and opens in current browsers and most editors. If you share the file with someone who uses old software, choose JPEG.

Sizing for sharing

A width of 1280 pixels gives a desktop view. For a message or a document, 800 pixels makes the text larger compared with the picture. Raising the resolution to 2x makes the file sharper on dense screens, at four times the pixels.

If the picture will be read on a phone, a narrow width such as 600 pixels keeps the text large enough to read without zooming. Check the preview at full size before you share it, because small details are easy to miss on a long page.

Very long pages

A very long page at 2x can reach the limit of 40 million pixels. If you see a size error, lower the resolution or the width, and the picture will fit.

Frequently asked questions

How long can the page be?

Up to 16,000 pixels tall. If the page is longer, the end is cut off and you see a note.

Why does my picture show a cookie notice?

A site shows the notice to every new visitor, and our server is one. Scripts are off, so it cannot be dismissed.

Can I make a PDF?

Not directly. Save the picture, then put it into a document with our JPG to PDF tool.

Does it work for a phone-sized page?

Yes. Set the width to 390 and many sites switch to their phone layout, which you can then save as one picture.

Are the pictures on the page included?

Pictures that the page loads from public addresses are drawn. Pictures that load only after scrolling may be missing.

Can I capture a page that changes often?

Yes, but the picture shows the page at the moment it was taken. Draw it again to get a fresh copy.
