# Resize an image to the YouTube banner size

Make a channel banner at 2560 by 1440 pixels, the size YouTube recommends, with the frame placed where you want it.

## How it works

1. **Add your images** Drag and drop, paste, or pick files. They upload over an encrypted connection.
2. **Pick a quality or a target size** Use the quality slider, or tell it exactly how many KB or MB you need.
3. **Download** Save each file, or grab them all at once as a ZIP.

YouTube's help pages recommend a banner of 2560 by 1440 pixels, especially for TV, accept nothing smaller than 2048 by 1152, want a 16:9 shape and limit the file to 6 MB. The catch is that only a band in the middle shows on every device: at the minimum size, the area guaranteed to show text and logos is 1235 by 338 pixels.

Add your picture and a 16:9 frame appears. Place it, and the result is made at exactly 2560 by 1440 pixels as a JPEG, enlarged if your picture was smaller. A photo straight from a camera compresses well under 6 MB at that size, so the upload goes through first time.

YouTube's numbers are quoted from its own help page about channel branding. The crop position is yours: put the part that must be seen, such as your name or logo, in the middle band.

## The safe area

On a phone, YouTube shows only the centre strip of the banner; on a computer, a wider band; on a TV, all of it. Keep text and faces inside the middle, roughly the central half of the width and a quarter of the height, and use the rest for background that can be cut off without loss.

A banner that looks empty on a TV but crowded on a phone is the usual sign that something important sits outside the safe area.

## Adding text

Put your channel name or upload schedule on the banner with the add text page, after resizing, so it lands exactly where you want it within the safe area. Large, simple lettering reads best at phone size.

## From a wide photo

Landscape photos are close to 16:9 already, so little is cut. A portrait photo loses most of its height; choose a horizontal picture, or a pattern that can be cropped freely.

## Privacy

Your picture is processed on our server and deleted once the banner is ready.

## File size

The result is a high-quality JPEG, normally between 1 and 3 MB at 2560 by 1440. If a very detailed picture comes out larger, set a target such as 5 MB in the compression settings to stay under YouTube's limit.

## Other banners

For a shared link image or an article header, the social card and Open Graph image pages make 1200 by 630 pictures instead.

## Checking on every device

After uploading, YouTube's channel editor shows a preview for TV, desktop and mobile. Look at the mobile view first: if your name or logo is cut there, move the 16:9 frame or shift the text towards the centre and make the banner again.

## Channel artwork that lasts

Keep the source picture and the layered text separately, so a later change of schedule or a new logo needs only a new banner, not a new photo.
